Angel appeared in the lobby of the Hyperion just a few minutes after he had left. He bent over and picked up the interdimensional key and handed it to a waiting Fred. He gave a quick nod to the other three men sitting in the lobby.

"That was quick.  Did you find anything?" She asked.

"Yeah, kind of." Angel was a bit dazed from the trip, and Skip’s parting words to him about Cordelia. "Skip said something about the Axis. Any idea what that is?"

"Actually I do." Fred beamed. "When I didn't find anything in the demonology books beyond what I told you, I started looking into traveling between dimensions. The physics side of it and all."

"Skip said Cordelia ‘ascended to a higher plane’, that she became a higher being." Angel rested on the deep cushion of the couch.

"That makes sense, I mean with what we all read in the books. There was evidence that some half demons eventually disappear from this plane when their powers get to be great. I was looking for a reason that Cordelia would have left, when really I should have been looking for a way to get her back. In mythology the Pythians worshipped the serpent, believing the Serpent God held his coil around the world’s axis holding it in place as was his will. So I took into account the Lund Model of the Pythian axis which says that if you use Delta Zeta as a commonblock and follow pi to an axis of unknown origin you can find the point where the earth meets the heavens. Or in our case it could be used to find any other plane on the same axis as the earth. So if Cordy’s powers are linked to the earth, like the visions were, relating to people and all, it makes sense that the higher plane Skip told you about would be an earth-bound plane. So all we need is the Axis of Pythia to calculate the axis point from where Cordelia ascended, then figure out how high above us her higher plane is." Fred took a deep breath. "It should be pretty easy."

The four men in the room stared at Fred for a long moment wondering if she would pass out from the lack of oxygen traveling to her brain while she spoke.

"So, finally, a job that just screams ’Fred’." Angel said.

"I told y’all it would pay to have my little super physicist around." Gunn put a heavy arm around Fred’s small waist and kissed the top of her head.

"So what can we do to help?" Spike asked.

"Well, I just need the Axis and I can get started."

"Okay, so where to we find this Axis thing?" Angel asked.

"Well, we could buy one, but that's more money than we have."

"How much are we talkin’ here." Asked Gunn.

"Oh, for a full system upgrade about $33 million dollars."

Angel choked at the number.

"Don’t suppose you lot would let me just nick the software and you could install it yourself." Spike gave Angel a smile hoping he would let him.

"No Spike."

"Didn’t figure as much. Are you sure this is all physics, not mystical or what have you?"

"No Spike, I'm really not sure. I'm going to call Wesley and ask him to research that aspect of it, cause I really can't read anymore of the books we have here. I'm going to head over to UCLA and see if I can use their physics center’s computers to work out the math." Fred walked to her office and started to gather up her laptop and a few books.

Angel followed the small brunette into her office and shut the door.

"Fred, I don't want Wesley’s help."

Fred turned around with an armful of books. "Angel look at those." She gestured to another pile of books on the desk. "I can't read them, I've tried, Connor tried, even Spike looked at a few. We can't read them, and even if we could it would take us days. Everyday Cordelia is gone it will be harder to get her back."

"I can read them." Angel stated. "I can read more than a dozen languages, demon and otherwise."

"But you couldn't read Gushundi, could you? Or Niazian? Angel you can't read them all. I know you don't trust Wesley and I can't blame you." Fred set the books down and grabbed a canvas bag from the coat rack. She placed the bag in Angel's hands and began loading it while she continued. "Sometimes you just have to let people help you, even when you don't want to. You taught me that. Sometimes you just have to trust and have a little faith."

Angel placed the now full bag on Fred’s shoulder. "I can't trust him, not after what he did."

"Angel, what he did was try to save your son. All the anger in the world isn’t going to change the fact that he took Connor because he thought you were going to kill him. Maybe you ought to think about that before you lose his help forever." She pushed past him and opened the door.  "Now I am going to the university and I AM going to call Wesley, and I am going to find a way to get Cordelia back. Now you go upstairs and rest."

"Fred, let’s not forget who the boss is here." Angel protested.

"Spike!" The blonde vampire jumped at Fred’s shrill voice.

"Yeah." He answered.

"I want you to take Angel up to his room and make him rest. Sit on him if you have to, but I do not want to see him again before sundown. Understood?"

"Yeah luv, clear as windex." Spike grabbed Angel's arm and dragged him to the stairs. "You heard the lady peaches, to beddy bye with you."

As an after thought Spike turned to Gunn and added in a hushed voice. "Is there any good blood in the fridge?"

"Nope, we got rid of what was left after Angel was gone for a couple weeks."

"We’re going to need some then. Human too, none of that pig's blood, not till he's better. See what you can do, eh?" Gunn gave a nod of agreement and watched the two vampires head up the stairs for the third time that day.

"Connor, how about you go shopping with Uncle Charles." Fred said before stepping out the door.

"Great, where exactly to we get human blood." Connor winced. "I really don't want to know do I."

"I've got a few sources, better get going though. Gets harder to find after regular business hours."

"You people really are strange aren't you?"

"You have no idea." Gunn chuckled.
