The Adventures of Captain Peroxide and Deadboy
The Angel/Spike Zone of the BtVS Writer's Guild
Writing the Sex Scenes
by Nemi
Shagging, fucking, rutting, making love, screwing, doin' the horizontal, playing bedroom golf... whatever you want to call it, it basically means the same; sex.
But Spike and Angel are both male? So how does it work, then? Well, homosexual sex usually happens with one's penis penetrating the other's anus, to use the professional words. Here, I present some basic rules for writing a Spike/Angel sex scene (or any slash sex scene).
NOTE: I don't pretend to be a complete expert on this, since I'm neither male or gay... er... I mean a male gay... ;o) Anyway, I'm just trying to give you some advice. I'm not saying you have to follow them. Also, I'm always open for comments and/or suggestions - just mail me!
Preparation
Take a look at an asshole - yourself, for instance. Does it look like a penis can fit up there? Nope, didn't think so. Yet it can, because the human body is a lot more flexible than it sometimes appears to be. However, you need to be very prepared for anal sex, unless you partner wishes to tear everything and ruin your anal muscles. The anal entry is really a ring of muscles that can clamp down pretty hard and it usually will in a pure reflex. So - preparation is a very good word.
Use lubrication!
I don't care how well-used Spike's/Angel's hole is or how much extra powers they have as vampires - they need lube for it to work, unless you're writing an evil-fic, involving either rape, hard BDSM or dominance. You can use a lot of things for lube; bought lube, semen, saliva, soap, massage oil or even blood. I'm no big fan of the last, though.
Be inventive, because it's not *extremely* likely that Spike and/or Angel just happen to have a bottle of lube laying around. Think about it - do you find the thought of using either this or that as lube disgusting? No? Then write it. Someone else might find it disgusting, but there's always someone who shares your opinion.
Blood play?
Like I mentioned above, I'm no fan of blood being used as lube unless its an evil-fic with Angelus being the top. However, you can have them feed off each other while going at it - not original, but it still works - and you can write about how William got turned, or just have them drink each other's blood as foreplay. Maybe they'll make a mess? Who knows - it's only your imaginations that draws the lines between exciting and disgusting, and seductive and messy.
Too many or too few words?
Don't just write
"Angel lubed up and stuck his dick up Spike's asshole. Then he started thrusting and came inside Spike while Spike came all over them."
I just got an entire sex scene nailed down with two sentences. See how *extremely* bad that was? Well, take a look at a dictionary. See how thick it is and how many words there are in it? Well, use them!
Draw it out into a music-less symphony and make the sex scenes the way you want them. Beautiful and tender, painful and teary, needy and passionate, raw and angry... Also, use other words instead of their names. Don't just call them 'Angel' and 'Spike' or 'he.' That's how terrible confusion is created. Call them 'the older vampire', 'the dark-haired man', 'the peroxide-blonde'... see my point? Use the words!
Noisy?
Most people (as far as I know) make some kind of noise during sex, whether it is loud moans, soft pants or earth-shattering screams. Spike and Angel don't *really* breathe, even though we've seen them do so on the show several times, so panting shouldn't be over-used. Something very common is growls and snarls, but I think this works even though it's used very often. We've heard both vampires growl and snarl when they're hurt, so why not when they're feeling pleasure. Purring is also works, although it's been used a lot.
Like two nuts in a sac.
Sometimes, people forget about the testicles. Don't. After all, the testicles are a highly sensitive area as well that doesn't deserve to be ignored. Make Angel give Spike a blowjob while playing with his sac, or have Spike fondle them while he's thrusting into Angel.
*Fumbling* towards ecstasy...?
I say Spike and Angel wouldn't fumble. Why? Well, for one thing, they both have over 100 years of sexual experience. For another, very many writers assume that Spike and Angel, as vampires, are bisexual and have had relations with other men in the past. Most people also seem to think that Spike and Angel had a relationship before Angel got his soul back. Of course, if you're writing mush and goes away from what everybody assumes, be my guest! :o)
Are Angel and Spike circumsized or not?
I found myself wondering a bit about this when I first started writing fanfiction, but then I did some research, and to answer the question; No. Spike and Angel are most likely to have everything intact. Considering when and where they were born, they probably are uncut.
Swallowing semen
I've read various solutions about swallowing semen. Some people don't describe the taste at all and instead sayd that Spike and Angel's tastebuds have changed or been 'dimmed' since they're vampires. Other people write stuff like: "Angel felt Spike coming in his mouth and easily swallowed the sweet fluid." Yeah, right. Semen tastes sweet. Heh. Heh. Cute. Very, very wrong, but cute. Semen (and blood) both tastes bitter and coppery and maybe a tad bit salty. The salty-part can vary from man to man. And of course, there are authors who does write that semen tastes bitter - or even authors who write that they spit and *don't* swallow. :o)
Time out?
How long time does Spike and Angel need to recover again after an orgasm? Most stories says they can be ready for round two/three/whatever within minutes, because of their vampiric strength. A few stories state that they use as long as normal, mortal men do (15-20 minutes, give or take a couple of minutes), and I once read a story where they couldn't get it up for hours afterwards - once again because they're vampires. The vampires have bad or no circulation, and that's why it's so hard for them to get an erection again for some hours. Now *that* was a joy to read.
Possible or not?
The above question leads us to a new one, much more interesting one: How can vampires get erections in the first place, since they're technically dead, with no circulation? I assume most or all of you know that when a man gets an erection, his arousal causes blood to stream to the penis. So how can vampires work this? We know they can, after the Angel/Buffy sex in "Surprise" and "I Will Remember You." But how? Well, *my* guess is that it's just another one of those phenomenons of Joss Buffyverse. Like why vampires bleed so much if they lack circulation, how vampires can pant and yet claim they're not breathing, etc.
*****
Blowjob: Oral sex; sex using the mouth.
Entering/Going in dry: The top enters the bottom without any form for lubrication. This will *always* hurt, no matter how 'well-used' or how stretched you are. Normally used in evil stories and rape stories.
Fetish: Many people think a kink and a fetish are the same - they're not. While kinks are for fun, a fetish is something the person who has the fetish cannot find pleasure without. So if Angel had a foot fetish, he had to play with Spike's feet, or Spike with his own, if he were to feel true pleasure.
Kinks: A kink is something extra brought into the 'game' to bring the parts more joy. Toys, BDSM, food, etc.
Perineum: Also a highly sensitive spot in the man's anus. Can be stimulated by caressing the area between the testicles and anus.
Pre-cum: When aroused, most guys' penises leaks some small drops of semen. This is normally called pre-cum. It can be everything from some tiny beads to large drops. (Note that some men don't have pre-cum. Maybe Spike or Angel is one of those men?)
Prostate: A small gland sitting in anus. Can be considered the man's clitoris, if you don't count his penis.
Rimming: Using one's tongue on the other's asshole - licking a guy's ass.
Shagging, rutting, screwing, coupling, fucking, etc: I firmly believe everybody knows these. In short, they all simply mean to have sex.
Slash: Same sex. m/m is two males, f/f is two females. Although Slash is primarily used to describe m/m stories, it also counts for f/f stories.
Top/bottom: In a male/female situation this expression is normally used after who is literally on top, but in male/male slash situations it is normally used after who's giving and who's receiving. The "giver" is usually called the top, even though the "receiver," or the bottom, may actually be riding him.
For synonyms for penis, I'd check out "Austin Powers 2; The Spy Who Shagged Me." Watch for Dr. Evil's moon rocket, and you'll see what I mean.
*****
Missionary style/splits
The classical missionary style with the top...well, on top. They're facing each other. The bottom has to roll his hips a little. They can be both close so they can smooch, or the top can raise himself up. One or both of the bottom's legs usually is hooked in the top's elbows or over the top's shoulders to make it easier on both of them. Once the top is inside the bottom, the bottom's legs can be moved to the top's waist.
From behind - laying down
The bottom is either lying face down or kneeling. The hips should be raised a little if the top wants easier access. Actually, it's pretty much the "doggy style."
From behind - standing
It's easier if the bottom's bent over at the waist, supporting himself with his hands towards something. A table, a wall, a fence... Another form for the "doggy style."
Going To Church
Oral sex position where the receiver is standing up, while the giver is kneeling in front of him.
Riding
The bottom sits on the top, just like when girls are on top in hetero sex. The bottom can sit facing either way. If he sits facing the top, the top can always play with the bottom's cock since the bottom probably will need one or both hands to support himself.
69
Oral sex position; they're lying facing each other's cocks so they both can give and receive at the same time. The position is named after the number's position to each other. Lots of fun and pleasure for both parts. And at the same time, even. ;o)
Spoons
Sideways - not convenient if you're writing a very "lusty" nor "needy" story that involves frantic fucking rather than slow love-making, because a fast fuck in this position is bound to give both Spike and Angel sore muscles - vampiric strength or not. The top can help the bottom keep one of his legs up for easier access.
*****
What, you thought there was only the bed? Yeah, RIGHT! HAH! There are a million other places to have sex! Listen to George Michael, people: "I think I'm done with the sofa, I think I'm done with the hall, I think I'm done with the kitchen table, baby! Let's go outside!" The following are just some of the places you can place Angel and Spike for some hot action.
In the bed: As in - the regular bed in the bedroom. The most standard place, I think.
In the chair: The bottom sits on it, facing away or facing the top, and a good time is had by all!
In the car: Groping in the backseat while at the drive-in is a classic. Shagging in the front seat and afterwards finding marks from the gear stick in your back is also a classic. :o)
On the car: Literally on the car. Angel, leaning over a still warm hood, getting pounded by his lover... *toddles off to take a cold shower*
On the table: Seriously - wiping away all the stuff on the kitchen table for some really hot action is a cliché that still works. Really. And tables in general are fun! :o)
In the tub: A bit cramped, but sharing a warm bath is just sooo romantic. It has been done before. With great sucess.
Up against a wall: Both inside and outside - a hard pounding against a wall can be incredibly hot!
On the couch: Similar to a bed, but smaller. But small can be good, too! Often used when our guys are in a hurry and the bed is too far away. And it's a good opening for a light-hearted, teasing sex scene.
On a bench: Hey, if Spike and Dru can kill a homeless man there, Spike and Angel can most definitely have sex there!
In a small motel: Okay, so it's seedy, and icky, but still people write this scenario. So why the heck not. The house is too far away, and our guys can't wait. Simple solution.
On the floor: Spike and Angel are always so hot for each other, that sometimes both the bed and the sofa are too far away. Ergo; the floor. Hard, but great for a quick coupling.
In the grass: And we're moving away from the hard & fast area, to the TLC area. Spike and Angel in a grass meadow, in the middle of the night, the silver moon shining brightly above them... *sigh*
On the beach: As long as they don't get sand in unwanted places, this is possibly one of the romantic scenarios I can imagine... *siiigh*
On the roof: Closer to the stars, and pretty private... usually, anyway.
In the graveyard: A quick shag while on patrol. Why not, eh?
*****
I, personally, believe that vampires are bisexual. Yes, they do bear a resemblemce to what the person was like as a human, we got that confirmed with vampire Willow and Angel's remark in "The Doppelgangland," but I still think they're bisexual no matter what.
I also believe that vampires are or can be somewhat...animalistic during sex. Which leads us to the fun stuff; Bondage, Sado-Masochism, toys, etc. Remember Spike's line from "The Harsh Light Of Day?" "We've got an extra set of chains." Okay, so our favorite peroxide-blonde was into bondage with Drusilla - why would he quit that with Angel?
We've seen Angel chained up after he returned from Hell, and on the "Angel" series - you have to admit that it was inspiring, or what? ;o) Imagine Angel chained to the bed while Spike teases him mercilessly with his tongue. Think Spike tied up standing while Angel takes him from behind. Their vampiric strength also allows more acrobatics from both sides.
I also want to make one thing clear; "Kinky" does *not* equal "pain" or "sharp objects" or anything like that. If you're thinking pain, youre more on the BDSM side of things, where pain is a part of the game. You can be just as kinky with a feather as with chains. Get the picture? Good, let's move on, then.
If you're writing an evil/torture-fic, think about when Spike had Angel chained up in "In The Dark." It does give you quite some possibilities... When it comes to toys, I *really* can see Spike using them, and I really *can't* see Angel using them. However, who's to say that Spike can't have some influence on Angel?
Phone sex can be reason enough to get out the dildos. Can't you just imagine Angel talking dirty to Spike on the phone? Describing in details what he plans to do with his Childe? *ooh...runs off to take a cold shower* Aaaah, I'm back.
Anyway, just use your imagination, and almost anything will be possible. Think handcuffs, chains, scarfs, paddles, whips, feathers, dildos, buttplugs, vibrators, cock rings - think everything. And don't be ashamed. After all - what is there to be ashamed of? ;o)
Some toys and such you can use:
-Dildos
-Vibrators
-Cock rings
-Whips
-Paddles
-Piercings
-Food
-Handcuffs
-Chains
-Scarfs/other clothes articles
-Rope
-Water (trust me, it can be kinky...)
-Feathers
-Buttplugs
-Clamps
-Gags
-Pillows (yes, pillows can be kinky too...)
-Knives (but *only* since it's vampires we're dealing with...)
-Blood (as in 'bloodplay')
